This book follows Rose McKenzie, a prisoner taken from Earth, and her adventures involving an “intelligent system” of a Class 5 space battleship, named Sazo who is learning independence. He's saved her from captivity and torture, but he's also put her in the middle of a conflict. She meets several different types of aliens and interacts with them. This series does have some alien romance of the attraction at first sight. variety.

They are coming. The countdown has begun. First visible only as blips on a telescope image, the discovery of objects approaching from Jupiter orbit immediately sets humanity on edge.
